Where & When to Get It
I had the wonderful opportunity to read Blue Se7en by Michele Inoue. The book is about Seven, a young lady getting ready to leave for college, goes on a wonderful trip to Japan with her friends. Natsuo is a hot boy band star in Japan. They have a fateful meeting after Seven experiences a horrible betrayal, but it isn’t their first meeting. Together they work to overcome both their horrible experiences.
What did I think Blue Se7en?
I don’t read a lot of straight up romance novels, so it took me a bit to get hooked. However, once I was hooked, I was all in. I love how supportive the main relationship is, though, and how they work together to overcome everything and everyone in their way. Also, as someone who went through middle and high school in the late 1990’s-early 2000’s, there was a lot of nostalgia. A lot of books set in Japan tend to overplay “Wow Japan! So cool!” but the author handled explaining without over explaining Japanese items and culture very well.
My only gripes about the book wound up being a non-issue because of the twist at the end. Before the surprise ending reveal, it was heading in a direction that was making me roll my eyes a bit. Thanks to that plot twist, I’m looking forward to the next book.
Good for:
-Young adult romance fans
-People who like Japan and J-bands
-People who like seeing main characters suffer and overcome it.
Bad for:
-People who have a lot of violence/death-related triggers
-People who hate love stories
